Replacing the O2 Sensors on a Mustang

This covers all Mustangs with 5.0 O2 Sensors.

Costs : $77.98

Purchased from: Auto Zone

Tools needed:
vise grip pliers or a 3/8" o2 socket
On a related note this tune up includes several sections to this install you may not need to do all of the items that we did.

On to the Tune Up

Step 1:

Let the car sit over night and always start your day off by having a good meal.

The reason for waiting till the morning after you purchase the items is to let the vehicle cool.

Step 2:

As you can see we laid out all the items that we were replacing and a few other as well such as the fuel filter and O2 we will discuss later in the Tech section.

Step 3:
We started by chalking the tires, jacking the car up, and securing it on jack stands. For safety reasons, I always slide the tires under the car as well that way if it does fall it does not fall far

Step 4:
After securing the car slide under and look up past the stock of aftermarket x or h pipe beside the transmission pan.

 Step 5:
Next remove the electrical connector and loosen the old o2 with the vise grips or use your o2 socket and remove it.

Step 6:
Install the new o2 with the pliers or the o2 socket reconnect the wire.

Step 7:
After installing your new o2 (while you have your tires off inspect your brakes for wear) jack the car back up reinstall the tires remove the jack stands tighten up the lug nuts to the correct specifications lower the car re-check all the lug nuts put the caps back on and crank it back and your done do not forget to remove your chalks.

Note do not go and have your car inspected right away after replacing the O2 your on-board will need to have time to record data.

Driving 200 to 300 miles after replacing is kinda the norm here.
